Israel was a sanctified people
Exodus 19:1-6,14 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai. 2 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount. 3 And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; 4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. 14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
A covenant people by the sign of circumcision
Genesis 17:11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you.
Sanctified for an inheritance
Leviticus 20:24 But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.

Israel was the church in the wilderness

The temple was also sanctified
2 Chronicles 7:16 For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
The Israelites were to live sanctified lives
Leviticus 11:44 For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
a warning for the sanctified
Numbers 15:32 Now while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. 33 And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. 34 They put him under guard, because it had not been explained what should be done to him. 35 Then the LORD said to Moses, "The man must surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp." 36 So, as the LORD commanded Moses, all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him with stones, and he died.
The temple of God today is christ’s church
Ephesians 2:19-22 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God (“which is the church,” 1Tim.3:15); 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
It is a holy place
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 Know ye not that ye (“the church of God which is at Corinth,” 1:2) are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
The Members of His church are sanctified in christ
1 Corinthians 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours.
“In Christ” by baptism
Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us (“saints,” 1:7) as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit we [members of His body] were all baptized [Mt.28:19] into one body [His church] -- whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free -- and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.
1 Corinthians 6:15 Know ye (church at Corinth) not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
The church at Corinth was the body of Christ
1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye (church at Corinth)are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
Christians are “in christ” – members of the body
Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
the Saints are found in churches

“church” and “saints” are used interchangeably
Acts 8:1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
Acts 9:13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
Baptism is the circumcision of Christ
Colossians 2:11-12 In Him you (“the saints and faithful brethren in Christ at Colossae,” Col.1:2) were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.
Jesus made the new covenant with His church
Luke 22:19-20 And he (Jesus) took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them (His apostles – the foundation of His church, Eph.2:20), saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is shed for you.
I covenant unto you a kingdom
Luke 22:29-30 And I covenant unto you – as my Father hath covenanted unto me – a kingdom 30 that ye may eat and drink, at my table, in my kingdom, and sit upon thrones, judging, the twelve tribes of Israel. (Rotherham)
sanctified for an inheritance

Abraham’s seed
Galatians 3:27-29 For as many of you (the churches of Galatia Gal.1:2) as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Inherit the Kingdom
Romans 4:13 For the promise that he would be the heir of the world (“heirs of the kingdom,” Jam.2:5) was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law (old covenant), but through the righteousness of faith (new covenant).
Christians are to live sanctified lives
1 Peter 1:14-15 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
A warning for those sanctified
Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer [or severer] punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Remember the exodus generation
Jude 5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
with Many of them God was not well pleased
1 Corinthians 10:5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
