THE ADOPTION OF SONS

Adoption pertaineth to Israel
Romans 9:4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; 5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Adoption = Huiothesia
Huiothesia is a compound Greek word: from " Huios " (a son) and "Thesia" (a setting or placing). Therefore, it actually means, "the placing of one in the position of a son."
God placed Israel in the position of a son
Exodus 4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:
A Son inherits
Jeremiah 3:19 "Then I said, 'How I would set you (Israel) among My sons, And give you a pleasant land, The most beautiful inheritance of the nations!' And I said, ' You shall call Me, My Father, And not turn away from following Me. '
A Son rules
Psalm 2:6-8 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Israel was chosen
Deuteronomy 7:6-7 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. 7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people.
God was in a covenant relationship with Israel
Exodus 34:27 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel."
Only Israel was known of God in a special way
Amos 3:2 You (Israel) only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.
Israel rebelled against the Lord
Isaiah 1:2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the LORD has spoken: "Sons have I reared and brought up, but they have rebelled against me.
Not all of Israel received Jesus as Messiah
John 1:11 He (Jesus) came unto his own (Israel), and his own received him not.
A remnant of Israel received Him
John 1:12-13 But as many (Jews, a remnant) as received him (as the Messiah, the Christ, the King of Israel 1:41,49), to them gave he power to become the sons of God (“heirs of God,” Rom.8:17; “children of the promise,” Rom.9:7), even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Israel within Israel
Romans 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel (faithful remnant – spiritual Israel), which are of Israel (the nation):
An Israelite indeed
John 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
A spiritual Jew
Romans 2:28-29 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God (a life lived by faith).
Jews that are not Jews
Revelation 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them whichsay they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
The true circumcision
Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
Unbelieving Israel was rejected and the
elect Gentiles were accepted
Romans 11:16-17,20-21 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. 17 And if some (not all) of the branches (Israel, natural branches) be broken off, and thou (elect Gentiles), being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them (the remnant of faithful Israel), and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; 20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
The remnant of Israel became Christ’s elect
John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world (the nation of Israel), therefore the world hateth you.
John 18:20 Jesus answered him, "I have spoken openly to the world; I always taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and I spoke nothing in secret.
Israel “elect” are they that are of faith
Romans 4:12 And the father of circumcision to them (Jews) who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.
The remnant of Israel became Christ’s church
Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock (on the true confession in v.16) I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
The Lord’s church is called “the Israel of God”
Galatians 6:15-16 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them (“unto the churches of Galatia,” Gal.1:2), and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
The new covenant was made with “the Israel of God”
Luke 22:20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you (His church, the Israel of God).
Gentiles are partakers with the remnant of Jews
Ephesians 3:6 That the Gentiles (“chosen,” 1:4) should be fellow heirs, and of the same body (with the remnant of Jews), and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
One new man – Jew and Gentile
Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in His flesh (on the cross) the enmity (between Jew and Gentile), that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances (ceremonial laws of distinction), so as to create in Himself one new man from the two (Jew and Genitle), thus making peace.
The election and the adoption includes the Gentiles
Ephesians 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us (Jews and Gentiles) with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children [the placement, or position or appointment as sons] by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.
Sons are placed in the future
Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
Groaning for the future adoption
Romans 8:23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption [“the time when we will take our place as sons,” BBE], the redemption of our body.
The first fruits of the Spirit
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
The redemption of our body
1 Corinthians 15:50-53 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
Now we have received the Spirit of adoption
Romans 8:14-15 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God (“not to live after the flesh…to mortify the deeds of the body,”v.12-13) these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."
What does it mean to receive the Spirit?
1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things (“the things which God has prepared for them that love him,” v.9] that have been freely given [or to grant or bestow] to us by God.
Crying out, Abba, Father
Mark 14:36 And He (Jesus, the Son) said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will."
The overcomers are placed as Sons
Revelation 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
