PRIDE IN THE LAST DAYS
2 Timothy 3:1-2,4
1This know also, that in the last days perilous [dangerous] times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves [self-love; self-significance], covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation [or assembly], in the sides of the north [the furthest part of heaven]: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Pride was the sin of Adam
Genesis 3:5
5 The serpent said, “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

PRIDE DEFINED

  •  Excessive confidence in and attention to one's own skills, accomplishments, state, possessions, or position.
  • Pride is easier to recognize than to define, easier to recognize in others than in oneself.
  • Some of the synonyms for pride include arrogance, presumption, conceit, self-satisfaction, boasting, self-esteem, vain-glory and high-mindedness.
  • It is the opposite of humility, the proper attitude one should have in relation to God.
  • Pride is rebellion and disobedience against God because it attributes to self the honor and glory due to God alone.
  • It is a part of our mind that tells us we are better than, greater than, more important than, more deserving than or more qualified than anyone else.
  • This attitude toward God finds expression in one's attitude toward others, often causing people to have a low estimate of the ability and worth of others and therefore to treat them with either contempt or cruelty.
  •  Pride is what leads to hatred, to envy, to lust, to murder and all other things that place the importance of Self ahead of all else.
  • Pride is the term used when we think more highly of ourselves than is justified.
  • An inaccurate and inflated view of myself.
  • Pride is the motivation that lives in the belief that Self must come before all else and everyone else.
  • Some have considered pride to be the root and essence of all other sins, this is why many call pride the mother of all sins.

PRIDE IS IN THE HEART OF MAN
