WOMEN CAN NEVER SPEAK IN A FORMAL

CHURCH GATHERING

1Corinthians 14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience (subjection or submission), as also saith the law. 35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

The context is inside the local church

1 Corinthians 14:19

“ Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

1 Corinthians 14:23

“If therefore the whole church be come together into one place…”

1 Corinthians 14:26

How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

1 Corinthians 14:35

And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

In all churches

1 Corinthians 14:33

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace (order), as in all churches of the saints.

A MORAL COMMANDMENT NOT CULTURAL CUSTOM

1 Corinthians 14:37

If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

Silence means not to speak

1 Corinthians 14:34

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

NOT TO SPEAK OPENLY TO THE ASSEMBLED CHURCH

1 Corinthians 14:27-29

27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

“silence” maintains order in the church meeting

1 Corinthians 14:33

THE ORDER: MAN IS HEAD OVER THE WOMAN

1 Corinthians 11:3

But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

SILENCE REVEALS SUBMITION

1 Corinthians 14:34

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience [SUBMISSION], as also saith the law.

Submission in this age is greatness

Matthew 20:25-28

25 But Jesus said to them, You see that the rulers of the Gentiles are lords over them, and their great ones have authority over them. 26 Let it not be so among you: but if anyone has a desire to become great among you, let him be your servant; 27 And whoever has a desire to be first among you, let him take the lowest place: 28 Even as the Son of man did not come to have servants, but to be a servant, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

WOMEN IN SUBMITION IS NOT CULTURAL BUT IN

1 Corinthians 11:8-9 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

1 Timothy 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

NOT ONLY WIVES BUT ALL WOMEN IN GENERAL

1 Corinthians 14:35

And if they (wives) will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

DAUGHTERS OF SARAH

1 Peter 3:6 Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well (in subjection), and are not afraid (faith) with any amazement.

Sarah was lived by faith

Hebrews 11:11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

SUBMISSIVE WOMEN ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM

1 Timothy 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall (in the future) be saved (“so great salvation…the world to come,” Heb.2:3,5) in childbearing (submitting to her role), if (it is conditional) they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
