Disciples are made

Matthew 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples [imperative mood] of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Baptized

John 4:1-2 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, 2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

Committed church members

Acts 14:27-28 Now when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 So they stayed there a long time with the disciples.

Taught to observe His commandments

Matthew 28:20 Teaching them [disciples v.19] to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Disciples are called Christians

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Disciples inquire and ask questions

Matthew 13:10 And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"

He revealed things to His disciples

Mark 4:34 But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.

Disciples know the secrets of the kingdom

Matthew 13:11 He answered and said unto them [disciples v.10], Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries [secrets] of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

Disciples of Christ refuse to obey traditions of men

Matthew 15:2 "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread."

Disciples obey the commands of Jesus

Matthew 21:6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.

Disciples are filled with joy and the Spirit

Acts 13:52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

No room for “me first”

Matthew 8:21-22 Then another of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father." 22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

A disciple becomes like His teacher

Matthew 10:25 "It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!

Disciples abide in the words of Christ

John 8:31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

Disciples bear much fruit

John 15:8 "By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

Discipleship will cost us our close relationships

Luke 14:26-27 "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate [must love me more than NLT] his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 "And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

Christ is close to His disciples – His brothers

Matthew 12:49-50 And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, "Here are My mother and My brothers! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Not all disciples endured to the end

John 6:66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.

A disciple can betray his Lord

John 12:4 Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who would betray Him, said,

Disciples can deny their Lord

Disciples are persecuted

Disciples can be deceived

Acts 20:30 "Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.

The goal of the disciple is to enter into the kingdom of God

Acts 14:22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, "We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God."
