PROVERBS OF SOLOMON
Proverbs 1:1  The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
 
1 Kings 4:29-33 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.  30  And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.  31  For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.  32  And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.
 
PURPOSE OF THE BOOK
Proverbs 1:2-6 To know wisdom [Skillful] and instruction [discipline,direction]; to perceive the words of understanding [discernment]; 3To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice [correct decision], and judgment [righteousness- right behavior], and equity [right thing]; 4 To give subtilty [prudence -foreseeing and avoiding evil] to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion [discernment which enables a person to judge critically of what is correct and proper].5  A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

KNOWLEDGE – UNDERSTANDING - WISDOM
Proverbs 18:15 The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
Psalms 49:3  My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
Proverbs 10:23  It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom. 
SOURCE OF WISDOM
Proverbs 2:6  For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
1 Timothy 1:17  Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, ...
 
LAW OF THE LORD MAKE US WISE
Psalms 19:7  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD [ the Holy Scriptures] is sure [to be believed], MAKING WISE the simple.
 
WISDOM IS THE  PRINCIPAL THING
Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the PRINCIPAL THING [he most important matter in life]; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting [riches,substance,goods, money] get [buy] understanding. 
WISDOM IS VALUABLE
Proverbs 3:13-16  Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.  14  For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.  15  She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.  16  Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
 
BUY IT AND DON'T SELL IT
Proverbs 23:23  BUY the truth, and SELL IT NOT; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. 
THE GOAL OF THE BOOK
Proverbs 3:35 The wise shall INHERIT GLORY (in the kingdom): but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
Proverbs 4:9  She [wisdom v7] shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: A CROWN OF GLORY shall she deliver to thee.
 
THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE START OF WISDOM
Proverbs 1:7  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 9:10  The fear of the Lord is the start of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One gives a wise mind. 
HOW TO GET THE FEAR ?
Proverbs 2:1-5 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;  4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 
 
FEAR MOTIVATES MEN TO DEPART FROM EVIL
Proverbs 16:6  By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by [through] the fear of the LORD men depart from evil. 
A WISE MAN FEARETH
Proverbs 14:16 A WISE MAN FEARETH, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. 
EYES OF THE WISE
Proverbs 22:3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. 
MIND OF THE WISE
Proverbs 15:24 The way of life IS ABOVE  [Mind set on things above;ie:thinking about appearing with Him in Glory Col 3:1-4].to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath [and attain unto the resurrection of the dead -Phil 3:14]
 
THE EAR OF THE WISE
Proverbs 18:15 Theheart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
 
Proverbs 18:13  He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him. 
 
WISE MAN LOVE CORRECTION, REBUKE AND INSTRUCTION
Proverbs 17:10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.
Proverbs 9:8,9 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.  
 
THE WISE IN HEART
Proverbs 10:8 The wise in HEART will receive commandments: but a prating fool [full of talk] shall fall.
 
Proverbs 16:21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning. 
THE MOUTH OF THE WISE
Proverbs 16:23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
 
Proverbs 15:2  The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. 
LIPS OF THE WISE
Proverbs 10:19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth [hold back]his lips is wise.
 
Proverbs 17:28  Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. 
 
TONGUE OF THE WISE
Proverbs 12:18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
 
Proverbs 10:32  Righteous people know the kind thing to say, but the wicked are always saying things that hurt.
 
Proverbs 15:4  A comforting tongue is a tree of life, but a twisted tongue is a crushing of the spirit. 
SPIRIT OF THE WISE
Proverbs 19:11The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
 
Ecclesiastes 7:9  Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools. 
WISE WOMAN
Proverbs 14:1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. 
WISE MEN ARE DILIGENT
Proverbs 2:3-4 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;4If thou seekest her [Wisdom v2] as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 
IN CHRIST ARE HID TREASURES OF WISDOM
Colossians 2:3 In whom [in christ] are hid ALL the treasures [thesaurus-a stored] of wisdom and knowledge.
 
BEHOLD, A GREATER THAN SOLOMON IS HERE
Matthew 12:42  The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
 
WISDOM LEADS TO SALVATION
2 Timothy 3:15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation [Pro 3:35 The wise shall INHERIT GLORY; obtaining the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with age lasting glory 2 Tim 2:10] through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
