“The tree of life” is in context of man’s
original creation
Genesis 2:7-9 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 9 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of lifealso in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Man was made to rule the earth
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Adam was in covenant with the Lord
Hosea 6:7 But like Adam they have transgressed the covenant; There they have dealt treacherously against Me.
Terms of the covenant – life or death
Genesis 2:15-17 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die [or “in dieing you shall die”].
The lord gave adam access to the tree of life
Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Adam died after he sinned
Genesis 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
Death passed upon all men
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Death is a return
Genesis 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Death is a sleep
Psalm 13:3 Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;
The tree of life gives immortality to man
Genesis 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever . [olam – singular- live unto the age]
To not see corruption
Psalm 49:9 That he should still live for ever [olam – singular- live unto the age], and not see corruption.
Adam was disqualified from access to
the tree of life
Genesis 3:23-24 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
David as other godly men saw corruption
Acts 13:36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
Jesus saw no corruption
Acts 13:37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
He was raised from the dead to die no more
Romans 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
the First to rise from the dead
Acts 26:23 That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.
now only Jesus has immortality
1 Timothy 6:14-16 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
A glorified man
1 Peter 1:20-21 Who (Christ, v.19) verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory [or glorified him, NIV]; that your faith and hope might be in God.
the gospel enlightens us to life and immortality
2 Timothy 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death (by His resurrection), and hath brought life and immortality [not subject to death] to light [or enlightenment] through the gospel:
The believing shall not die in the age to come
John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, 'I am the rising again, and the life; he who is believing in me, even if he may die, shall live; 26 and every one who is living and believing in me shall not die -- to the age; (YLT)
Immortality is a reward of age-lasting life
Romans 2:6 He will reward each one according to his works: 7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal age-lasting life.
Counted worthy to attain
Luke 20:35-36 "But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; 36 "nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
Immortal bodies inherit the kingdom of God
1 Corinthians 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption [immortality].
immortality at the last trump
1 Corinthians 15:52-53 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
Complete victory over death
1 Corinthians 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
Overcomers eat from the tree of life
Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him (an individual member) that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Overcomers rule over the earth with Christ
Revelation 2:26 "And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations -- 27 'He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter's vessels' -- as I also have received from My Father;
the tree of life is in the new jerusalem city
Revelation 22:2 In the midst of the street of it (“that great city, the holy Jerusalem,” 21:10), and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
when christ comes with His kingdom so does paradise
Luke 23:42-43 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom (on the earth – at His second coming). 42 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee Today, shalt thou be with me in paradise.
the tree of life is conditional
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. (Nasb)
The tree of life can be taken away from us
Revelation 22:19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.
Be not deceived you may Reap corruption in the future
Galatians 6:7-8 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting age-lasting.
