TEXT: James 1:5–8
5If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
6But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
7For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
THE CONTEXT IS VARIOUS TRIALS
James 1:2–4
2My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into VARIOUS TRIALS,
3knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
4But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
ENDURANCE IS A NEEDED TO ENTER THE KINGDOM
Mark 13:13And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
JOB WAS TESTED AND HE ENDURED
Job 23:10 But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
WE ALL LACK WISDOM FOR THE TRIAL
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
IN VARIOUS TRIALS – WE NEED TO PRAY!
James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? LET HIM PRAY. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
James 5:13 (NLT) — 13Are any of you suffering hardships? YOU SHOULD PRAY. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.
TRIALS SHOULD TURN US TO GOD
Psalm 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes.
THE HIGH VALUE OF WISDOM
Proverbs 8:11For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it.
THE LORD IS THE SOURCE OF ALL WISDOM
Proverbs 2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
Colossians 2:3In whom [Christ] are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
WHAT IS WISDOM?
Job 28:28And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.
Proverbs 8:13The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: Pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, And the froward mouth, do I hate.
THE FEAR OF THE LORD
Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
JOSEPH WAS KNOWN TO BE WISE
Genesis 41:39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and WISE as you.
Genesis 42:18 ″...Do this and live, FOR I FEAR GOD″
WISDOM FROM ABOVE
James 3:15–17This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17But THE WISDOM THAT IS FROM ABOVE IS first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
GOD GIVES LIBERALLY AND WITHOUT REPROACH
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, WHO GIVES TO ALL LIBERALLY and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
A PROMISE: WISDOM WILL BE GIVEN!

WE ARE TO PRAY FOR DAILY FOOD
Matthew 6:11Give us this day our daily bread.
AT THE SAME TIME WE ARE TO WORK FOR FOOD
2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.
WISDOM IS GIVEN BY THE STUDY OF SCRIPTURES
2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known THE HOLY SCRIPTURES, which ARE ABLE TO MAKE THEE WISE unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
ASK IN FAITH
James 1:6BUT LET HIM ASK IN FAITH, NOTHING WAVERING. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
James 1:6 (NKJV) — 6But let him ask in faith, WITH NO DOUBTING, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
James 1:6 (NIV84) — 6But when he asks, HE MUST BELIEVE AND NOT DOUBT, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
WE DON'T HAVE TO WAVER AT THE PROMISE OF GOD
Romans 4:20 HE DID NOT WAVER at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,
PRAY BELIEVING THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE
Mark 11:24Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
A DOUBTING MAN IS LIKE THE SEA!
James 1:6 ″...for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.″
ALL THAT COMES FROM GOD IS THROUGH FAITH
James 1:7For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
A CHRISTIAN CAN BE DOUBLE-MINDED
James 1:8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
