Series:

1 Peter 1:3

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again [new beginning – at baptism – a past event] to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

Romans 6:3–5 (NKJV)

3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so WE ALSO SHOULD WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE.

5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that HENCEFORTH WE SHOULD NOT SERVE SIN.

1 Peter 1:23–25

23 HAVING BEEN BORN AGAIN, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, THROUGH THE WORD OF GOD which lives and abides forever,

24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away,

25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is THE WORD WHICH BY THE GOSPEL was preached to you.

1 Corinthians 4:15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU THROUGH THE GOSPEL.

James 1:18 (KJV) Of his own will BEGAT HE US WITH THE WORD OF TRUTH [″the gospel,″ Col.1:5], that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Mark 16:15–16

15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and PREACH THE GOSPEL to every creature.

16 He who believes and is BAPTIZED will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, “Repent, and let each of you BE BAPTIZED in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, SAVE YOURSELVES from this untoward generation.

41 Then THEY that gladly received his word WERE BAPTIZED: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And THE LORD ADDED TO THE CHURCH daily THOSE WHO WERE BEING SAVED.

Acts 22:16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’

1 Peter 3:20–21

20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, EIGHT SOULS WERE SAVED BY WATER.

21 The like figure whereunto even BAPTISM DOTH ALSO NOW SAVE US (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

1 Peter 3:21 (ESV)

21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but AS AN APPEAL [″pledge″ NET] TO GOD FOR A GOOD CONSCIENCE, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

1 Peter 3:21 (NIV)

21 and this water [in the flood of Noah's day] symbolizes baptism THAT NOW SAVES [present tense] YOU also—not the removal of dirt from the body but THE PLEDGE OF A GOOD CONSCIENCE TOWARD GOD. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

1 Corinthians 15:16–20

16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

1 Peter 1:4

to [eis – leading to] an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven FOR YOU,

1 Peter 1:4 (NASB) TO OBTAIN an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven FOR YOU,

5 WHO ARE [being – present tense] kept by the power of God THROUGH FAITH [faith is the condition] for [eis – leading to] salvation [when?] ready to be revealed in the last time.

Hebrews 11:13

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

1 Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and HOPE TO THE END for the grace [i.e. salvation] that is to be brought unto you at the revelation [AT THE APPEARING, v7] of Jesus Christ;

1 Peter 1:6–8 (KJV) Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for A SEASON, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

7 That THE TRIAL OF YOUR FAITH, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

8 Whom having not seen, YE LOVE; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet BELIEVING, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

1 Peter 1:9

9 receiving THE END OF YOUR FAITHTHE SALVATION of your souls.

1 Peter 2:2 (NAS) like newborn babes, long for [crave for] the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to [leading to] SALVATION,

2 Timothy 3:15 (KJV) And that from a child thou hast known THE HOLY SCRIPTURES, which are able to make thee wise UNTO SALVATION through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 3:15 (NJB) and how, ever since you were a child, you have known THE HOLY SCRIPTURES —from these you can learn the wisdom that LEADS TO SALVATION through faith in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 3:15 (NASB) and that from childhood you have known THE SACRED WRITINGS which are able to give you the wisdom that LEADS TO SALVATION through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 4:17–18 (NKJV)

17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

18 Now “If the righteous one is SCARCELY SAVED, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”

NET – if the righteous are barely saved

NIV – if it is hard for the righteous to be saved

LEB – if the righteous are saved with difficulty

NAS – if it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved

2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Acts 2:47

47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were BEING SAVED [present tense].

Matthew 28:19–20 (NIV)

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

2 Timothy 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the SALVATION WHICH IS IN CHRIST Jesus with eternal glory.

1 Corinthians 1:18 For THE PREACHING OF THE CROSS [the gospel] is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us [in the church] which are BEING SAVED it [the gospel] is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 15:1–2 (ESV)

1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of THE GOSPEL I PREACHED TO YOU, which you received, in which you stand,

2 and by which you are BEING SAVED, if you hold fast to [″keep in memory″ KJV] the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

Jude 5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having SAVED the people out of the land of Egypt [e.g. baptism – 1Cor.10:2], afterward destroyed them that believed not.

Hebrews 3:19–4:1

19 So we [Christians] see that they [Exodus generation] could not enter in because of unbelief.

1 Therefore, since a promise remains [it still stands] of entering His rest [i.e. the kingdom] LET US FEAR lest any of you seem to have come short of it.

Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, NOW IS COME SALVATION, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Ephesians 2:1–13 (NKJV)

1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,

2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,

3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (BY GRACE YOU HAVE BEEN SAVED),

6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

8 For BY GRACE YOU HAVE BEEN SAVED through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Colossians 2:11–13 (NKJV)

11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,

12 buried with Him IN BAPTISM, in which you also were RAISED WITH HIM through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

13 And you, BEING DEAD IN YOUR TRESPASSES and the uncircumcision of your flesh [old life], He has MADE ALIVE TOGETHER WITH HIM [new life], HAVING FORGIVEN YOU all trespasses,

Here is a comparison of Ephesians and Colossians:
