Text: Hebrews 3:1-2 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; 2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

Wherefore looks back
Hebrews 2:17-18 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

The holy brethren are being sanctified
Hebrews 2:11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,

By the word of God
Luke 8:21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

Ephesians 5:26 That he [Jesus] might sanctify and cleanse it [the church] with the washing of water by the word

John 17:17 "Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth.

Sanctified in Church
1 Corinthians 1:2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints [holy ones]

A church can get dirty
Revelation 3:4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

He chose us to live holy
Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Sanctified by faith
Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Sanctified by the blood of the covenant
Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

His own blood
Hebrews 13:12 Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

Partakers of the heavenly calling
Hebrews 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Partakers with the Son in covenant
Hebrews 1:8-9 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows

Not just one Son but many sons
Hebrews 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Conditional partakers
Hebrews 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if [conditional] we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

The heavenly calling illustrated in Abraham
Hebrews 11:8-10,16 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called [by God] to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 16 but now they long for a better [city or homeland], that is, a heavenly, wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for He did prepare for them a city.

Heavenly = things to come
Hebrews 11:20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

A future fulfillment on the earth in the land of promise
Acts 7:4-5 "Then he [Abraham] came out of the land of the Chaldeans and dwelt in Haran. And from there, when his father was dead, He moved him to this land in which you now dwell [i.e. the land of Canaan]. 5 "And God gave him no inheritance in it, not even enough to set his foot on. But even when Abraham had no child, He promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his descendants after him.

Enlightened to this calling
Ephesians 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened [“the eyes of your mind having been enlightened”]; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

We must walk worthy of the calling
Ephesians 4:1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,
1 Thessalonians 2:12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

Consider…Christ Jesus
Hebrews 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Our profession will be tested
Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

We can deny Him and He can also deny us
Matthew 10:33 "But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

The apostles had their profession tested
Mark 14:31 “…he spoke more vehemently [intensity], "If I have to die with You, I will not deny You!" And they all said likewise.

The profession of our hope - HOLD IT FAST!!
Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

Consider….Jesus Christ who was faithful
Hebrews 3:2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

The good profession before Pilate
1 Timothy 6:13 I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate,

My kingdom is not of this world
John 18:33-36 Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" 34 Jesus answered him, "Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?" 35 Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?" 36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here."
