Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime [″in the past″ NIV] were written for our learning [″to teach us″ NIV], that we through patience [″endurance″ ESV] and comfort [″the encouragement″ ESV] of the scriptures might have hope.

Exodus 3:16–17

16 Go and gather THE ELDERS OF ISRAEL together and say to them, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, “I have observed you and what has been done to you in Egypt,

17 and I promise that I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, a land flowing with milk and honey.” ’

Exodus 4:1–9

1 Then Moses answered, “But behold, THEY WILL NOT BELIEVE ME or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you.’ ”

2 The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.”

3 And he said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it.

4 But the Lord said to Moses, “Put out your hand and catch it by the tail”—so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand—

5THAT THEY MAY BELIEVE that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

6 Again, the Lord said to him, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” And he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow.

7 Then God said, “Put your hand back inside your cloak.” So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh.

8 “If they will not believe you,” God said, “or listen to the first SIGN, THEY MAY BELIEVE THE LATTER SIGN.

9 If they will not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground, and the water that you shall take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.”

Exodus 4:29–31 (ESV)

29 Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all THE ELDERS OF THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL.

30 Aaron spoke all the words that the Lord had spoken to Moses and DID THE SIGNS IN THE SIGHT OF THE PEOPLE.

31 And THE PEOPLE BELIEVED; and when they heard that the Lord had visited the people of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, they bowed their heads and worshiped.

1 Kings 17:24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now BY THIS [the miracle] I KNOW THAT YOU ARE A MAN OF GOD, and THAT THE WORD OF THE LORD IN YOUR MOUTH IS THE TRUTH.”

Joshua 24:5–7

5 Also I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to what I did among them. Afterward I brought you out.

6 ‘Then I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea.

7 So they cried out to the Lord; and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, brought the sea upon them, and covered them. And YOUR EYES SAW WHAT I DID IN EGYPT. Then you dwelt in the wilderness a long time.

14 “Now THEREFORE, FEAR THE LORD, SERVE HIM in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord!

Matthew 11:3–5 and said to him, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” 4 And Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and SEE:

5 the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.

John 3:1–2

1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, WE KNOW THAT THOU ART A TEACHER COME FROM GOD: (Why?) for NO MAN CAN DO THESE MIRACLES that thou doest, except God be with him.

2 Corinthians 12:11–12 I have become a fool in boasting; you have compelled me. For I ought to have been commended by you; for in nothing was I behind the most eminent apostles, though I am nothing. 12 TRULY THE SIGNS OF AN APOSTLE WERE ACCOMPLISHED AMONG YOU with all perseverance, IN SIGNS AND WONDERS AND MIGHTY DEEDS.

John 20:30–31 (NKJV)

30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;

31 but THESE [signs] ARE WRITTEN THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

1 Kings 12:30 Then this thing became a sin, for the people went as far as Dan to be before one.

1 Kings 15:26 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin.

1 Kings 16:31 And as if it had been a light thing for him [Ahab] to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he took for his wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and WENT AND SERVED BAAL AND WORSHIPED HIM.

1 Kings 16:33 And Ahab made a wooden image. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

1 Kings 19:14 He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.”

1 Kings 19:18 Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”
