Sermon on the Mount – Part 4

Gospel Message no 46

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Matthew 5:6 (ESV)  “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

What does righteousness mean?

Genesis 15:4-6  And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.  5  And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.  6  And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Leviticus 19:15  "You are not to be unjust in deciding a case. You are not to show partiality to the poor or honor the great. Instead, decide the case of your neighbor with righteousness."

Deuteronomy 6:24-25  And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are this day.  25  And it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us.’

Psalms 119:172  My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.

Luke 1:6  And they were both [Zacharias & Elisabeth]righteous before God, walking in all the commandments [moral laws] and ordinances [ceremonial laws] of the Lord blameless.

Where is righteousness found?

Romans 1:16-17  For I am not ashamed of the gospel [good message] of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation to everyone believing, both to Jew first, and to Greek;  17  for in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; even as it has been written, "But the just shall live by faith."

2 Timothy 3:16-17  All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,  17  so that the man of God may be perfected, being fully furnished for every good work.

John 6:35  Jesus said to them, I am the Bread of life; the one coming to Me will not at all hunger, and the one believing into Me will not thirst, never!

What does it mean to believe in Jesus?

John 3:36  The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who disobeys the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.

The words, in God’s dictionary, mean the same thing.

Hebrews 3:18-19  And to whom did he swear that they would never enter his rest? It was to those who disobeyed him, was it not?  19  So we see that they were unable to enter because of their unbelief.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Hebrews 5:8  Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

Hebrews 5:9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

John 4:34  Jesus told them, "My food is doing the will of the one who sent me and completing his work.

Ecclesiastes 1

“Futility of futilities,” says the Preacher, “Futility of futilities! All is futility.”

What advantage does a person have in all his work Which he does under the sun?
A generation goes and a generation comes, But the earth remains forever.
Also, the sun rises and the sun sets; And hurrying to its place it rises there again.
Blowing toward the south, Then turning toward the north, The wind continues [d]swirling along; And on its circular courses the wind returns.
All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow,There they flow again.
All things are wearisome; No one can tell it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing,
Nor is the ear filled with hearing.
What has been, it is what will be, And what has been done, it is what will be done.
So there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one might say, “See this, it is new”? It has already existed for ages Which were before us.
11 There is no remembrance of the [h]earlier things, And of the later things as well, which will occur, There will be no remembrance of them Among those who will come later still.

Life Is Empty

Ecclesiastes 6:7 (NASB) All a man’s labor is for his mouth and yet the appetite is not satisfied.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 (NASB) He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity.

Ecclesiastes 5:20 (NASB) He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14  Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.  14  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Matthew 6:31-33  Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  32  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
